Canaletto, Warwick Castle, country house and estate valuations

Country Houses & Estates

Coram James values the contents of country houses and estates for insurance, for probate and tax purposes, for family division and for sale.

We have valued the contents of several important stately homes and country houses, from castles to Elizabethan and Georgian houses, including houses open to the public.

What We Value

Collections built up over generations: family portraits and Old Master paintings, English and Continental furniture, libraries, silver, ceramics, arms and armour, tapestries, clocks and sculpture, together with the general contents of the house, from the state rooms to the attics and outbuildings.

What We Offer

  • Full contents valuations for insurance, room by room, with photographs
  • Valuations for probate purposes and for inheritance tax planning
  • Advice on conditional exemption and Acceptance in Lieu
  • Valuations for trusts, family division and sale
  • Independent advice on selling, from a single work to the contents of a whole house
  • Inventories and collection audits, including updating historic inventories

How We Work

Large houses are valued by a team of specialists working together on site, often over several days. We work around the family, staff and visitors, and keep disruption to a minimum. Everything is brought together in one report, valued to the same standard.

Discretion

Confidentiality is standard in every instruction, and we do not name the houses we work for.

To discuss a house or estate in confidence, please contact Robert Coram James on 020 7305 7360 or at info@coramjames.com.
