International Valuations
Coram James is based in central London and regularly travels to value collections overseas. Many of our clients have homes, collections and advisers in several countries, and we value everything to the same standard, in one report.
Our reports are prepared to RICS standards, which are recognised internationally, and are relied on by insurers, lawyers, courts and tax advisers.
For Lawyers and Insurers
Law firms, insurers and brokers in the UK and the United States can instruct us on cross-border matters: insurance valuations and appraisals of collections kept abroad, loss and damage claims, and expert evidence in disputes, divorce and estates involving assets overseas. We work to your timetable and report in a form your client, insurer or court can rely on.
The Middle East
We value collections for museums, institutions and private clients in the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates, for insurance and for sale. We have valued a major museum collection in the region.
The United States
We value collections for American clients and for British clients with homes in the United States. Recent work includes an insurance valuation of around 100 modern American and European works for a private collector in Los Angeles, inspected in person, with values researched against sales in New York, London and Paris.
The Caribbean
We value art, jewellery and house contents for insurance, probate and divorce for clients with homes in the Caribbean. We also act as expert witnesses in Caribbean jurisdictions, and have given expert evidence in person in a civil case in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Asia
We value Chinese, Japanese and South Asian works of art for collectors with Asian collections, researched against results in Hong Kong, London and New York, and we travel to Asia to value collections in person.
How We Work Overseas
- Every work is inspected in person, by the specialist for that field
- Collections across several countries valued in one report, on the same basis
- Values in sterling, US dollars or local currency, as required
- Travel costs agreed in advance
- Where a visit is not practical, a desktop valuation from photographs, clearly caveated as such
